There she stood. It had been almost a week since she moved to Forks, Washington.
Loneliness had swept over her. She missed the academy and her old teachers yelling down at her. She missed being noticed by people. She missed having people at least see her when she caused trouble, but here it was forbidden if she were to complete her mission, there would be not trouble making.
Elizabeth took a step forward. She was soaked with the rain that had fallen over her so quickly, but she cared not. The rain was the only thing that made her happy to be at this post. She enjoyed dancing within the drops of water and allow them to fall against her pale skin.
Her feet carried her into the doors of the old bookstore. Elizabeth slowly opened the doors and walked inside. The warmth from the heater suddenly made her close her eyes. It was like coming from a snowstorm to the beach. She walked toward the fantasy section and her eyes caught a book on witches at once.
A gentle frown crossed her pale pink lips as she looked at the old wrinkled woman on the cover with a large nose and pet frogs. She wanted to speak up against what humans thought of the casters, or witches and warlocks. It annoyed her to see what they thought of her kind.
Next to it was a book about vampires with large fangs and blood covering them, that brought a smile back. That's how she saw them as well. Vampires were disgusting creatures to her, ever since they took-the wrong life-in front of her eyes.
Vampires don't deserve anything but to wonder within Purgatory. She thought with a smug grin.
She felt the sudden need to attack something, but instead she looked toward the old woman at the counter smiling at her. She sent a false smile back then turned away walking deeper into the shelves.

"Violet, I'll do your entire week's homework if you run a few errands for me!
That promise rang in Violet's ears. It wasn't Olivia's voice that made her ears ache with pain, because Olivia's voice was a soothing as a crystal bell. And it was obviously not the deal that made Violet cringe. It was the deed that Olivia had tricked Violet into doing. Well, Olivia isn't much of a trickster, but she knew to pinpoint Violet's weakness over homework and her joy of making deals. Either way, Violet agreed without knowing the errands she has to run.
So, what were the errands and how bad are they?
If you're like Violet and you classify "power-shopping" in bookstore a real slice of torture, then you'd understand why Violet is swearing under her breath as she walked steadily down the wet sidewalk. She was just happy that her black jacket was keeping her warm in this chilly weather, and that her blond hair was behaving so nicely that she could let it out of it's usual ponytail. But she was irked by the sound of her black, blue and silver gym shoes on the wet sidewalk, and her holey-jeans and lemon-yellow tank top. Violet had grown up in Forks, so she knew the common rainy and chilly weather! So what on earth possessed her to where THIS in October???
It didn't matter, as Violet sucked in a deep breath and pushed the door open with her freehand. The elderly lady behind the counter grinned happily at the sound of the bell ringing at the top of the door, and the fact that she was having such young customers. You didn't need to read the woman's mind to know that. It was written all over her face!
Not wanting to speak with the elderly lady (you could say it was the grin that chased Violet away from her), Violet still needed to ask some questions on where she could find Olivia's old requests.
"Uhm, miss?" Violet asked a girl who was browsing the Fantasy Section. Violet nudged her jacket so she could get her attention. "Sorry to be bugging you, but do you know where I could find..." She paused as she looked at the list Olivia had given her on a Post-It Note. "...the fantasy area...and where some of the Old Literature is?"
Violet shivered. Her own words sounded pretty cheesy.

Elizabeth turned. Her deep emerald eyes looked at Violet. Her voice sounded harsh as she spoke quickly,"What do you want?" She suddenly scanned Violet then a blush covered her pale cheeks. "Forgive me. I thought you were someone else," It was clearly a lie that she had just spoken, but sometimes it was better to lie than tell the strange truth. She closed her eyes and then let a slight sigh leak from her lips as she pressed them together. A moment passed as she let those features fade away. Her frustrated frown turned into a slight smile and her eyes held kindness now.
"Alright. Now for your question, that isle right there is the fantasy section. And-" She turned walking into the large isle between every bookshelf, but the back row. "Back there is Historical Literature."
Her voice turned into a low whisper as she glanced around a bit, "The selection isn't that large however, and most of the books are before the year 1970, so you might call it all history."
Elizabeth pulled back from whispering then glanced toward the list as she spoke once more. This was the most talking she had done in days. "I can help you out if you'd like."
She had forgotten about her soaked hair, or her red cotton sweater being wet and clinging to her shirt as well, but she would realize it once more when she moved from the spot.

It was easy to saw that the sudden aggressive answer startled Violet to the fact that she involuntarly took a step backwards. Usually, Violet would straighten up at this point of time, and bark some of her own acid-covered insults and throw forward her flaming attitude. But there wasn't enough seconds to do any of that, because almost in a heartbeat the girl apologized. Violet sighed in relief, smoothing her jacket out like nothing happened.
Like an ice pack on a broken leg, Violet cringed and relaxed...letting the tension go. No need to throw a fit. Especially after a 'misunderstanding' no matter how crazy or odd it may be.
"Alright. Now for your question, that isle right there is the fantasy section. And-" Violet watched with curiosity as the girl stepped around her. "Back there is Historical Literature."
Violet nodded slightly, and pivoted on her heels as she pulled out that Post-It Note with Olivia's graceful and very anicent handwriting. Compared to Violet's own handwriting, Olivia's made Violet's look like she had a deadly seizure while writing it. But before Violet turned away, she took a quick glance at what the girl was looking at in the fantasy section...some creepy books with ugly pictures of Halloween Myths.
"The selection isn't that large however, and most of the books are before the year 1970, so you might call it all history."
Violet picked up the first book she saw and blew some loose dust off of it's beautiful blue cover. She coughed. "I'll say!" she managed to say between coughs and choking. Violet pushed the book back in place and cleared her scratchy throat. "Dusty..."
"I can help you out if you'd like."
Her happy, emerald eyes met the girl's matching pair, except the other girl's were more cat-like green than the foresty emerald mix Violet had. Violet's neatural frown twisted into a vivid smile. "Uh, sure. That'd be great. Name's Violet."

Elizabeth was a bit withdrawn by the sudden introduction, but she smiled sweetly and then spoke gently, "My name is Elizabeth. Pleasure to meet you." It was hard to refrain for her common bow and demonstration of her magical powers like back at the academy, where after the introduction she normally ended up with bruises from losing the greeting casting match.
She then glanced toward the beautiful handwriting on the note and her eyes widened slightly.
Is that from a printer? Well this gi- not Violet is quite beautiful, so maybe her handwriting matches. She thought quickly as her eyes shifted.
"Any ways, so what exactly does your friend need?" Her voice wasn't tense or even angry, just ready to help-for once.

Violet, again, was startled by the girl that addressed herself as "Elizabeth". The first thing that comes to mind on that name, would be Queen Elizabeth (some number to follow) or something related to the British/English roots. But that didn't matter right now, because Violet's head and mouth was overflowing with brain-numbing question.
"What my friend needs?" Violet shakily said, trying to say every syllable correctly without any sign of ease. Violet was baffled at how Elizabeth already figured out that Violet wasn't here on her free will but rather against her own will. Violet focused harshly on this, and narrowed down the possibilities.
One, Elizabeth can read minds.
Two, Elizabeth noticed the handwriting and didn't assume it was Violet's.
Three, Elizabeth hit the nail on the head and noticed that someone as snobby as Violet wouldn't set foot in a small, ancient bookstore on her own time.
Violet calmed down, trying not to make such a big fuss about this. She rolled her shoulders back as she inhaled the paper-scent of a bookstore and the moist air of the rain outside. She needed to chill.

Elizabeth's cheeks held a but of embarrassment as she spoke quickly and uncomfortably,"Well you see, I think anyone looking for historical books couldn't be a regular at bookstores, they're almost always at the back, and it's strange to see someone come right up and ask where it is before actually looking for it themselves. Was I wrong?"
The truth was she didn't believe someone as beautiful as Violet would be wondering around an old bookstore like this, and in the rain for that matter. It was strange that she would come to the store in the rain, but still it had to be for a friend or at least that was Elizabeth's accusation.
She smiled a bit politely as if waiting for the next question. For someone who was suppose to be stupid in front of humans, Elizabeth was a smart girl, at least in human ways. In magic, things backfired and she often ended up covered in smoke and bruises. Sometimes even large cuts from glass shattering all over the place.

A warm, bright smile smeared on Violet's face that gave off heat waves from the chilling, unwanted air-conditioning seeping through the bookstore's vents, that had painting a nice blush on Violet's cheeks. Violet lifted her hand and waved it in dismissal. "No, you're correct. I'm pretty much challenged when it comes to running errands for my...friend. Well, I'd like to call her my sister, since we live together and all that nonsense." Violet's eyes fell away from Elizabeth's pale but pretty face and onto a book that was pretty much screaming for attention. It was as black as night with gold painted on the stem, gold lettering reading: "THE COLD ONES".
Without hesitating, Violet snatched the list from her pocket and examined it. Yup, second thing on the list. Perfect!
Violet ran her fingers through the books and slowly, carefully pulled the ancient book out of it's place. Like all the other books, it had a thin layer of dust and grime coating it, but this time, Violet just wiped it off with her sleeve.
"Well, this would be the first on Olivia's list... Now I gotta find one more in this aisle then I--we, get to browse all around the fantasy aisle for Olivia's Halloween 'Bed-Time Stories'."

Elizabeth nodded in agreement, but the book choice frightened her at once. The thought popped into her head passed her copper colored hair and into the core. This girl's friend is interest in vampires. Then there was the other thought. I've found my first target. The first 'seeker' I must slay.
She pretended to smile, but she was really plotting the best way to trick this girl out of telling that her friend was a type of vampire or something immortal. She just had to wait and listen for the truth to slip. This girl seemed to like talking so maybe if she kept on with the subject.
"So how old is your friend, I mean bed time stories on Halloween?" She asked playfully. The thought of Halloween was dreadful. Dressing up..or maybe even wearing her academy uniform might be fun, but trying to restrain from attacking any dressed up children with white faces and fangs was hard for her. She knew that the vampires were starting out younger and younger each year. Soon there would be babies that were babies forever, because of those blasted vampires, but, of course, she was exaggerating, right?

"So how old is your friend, I mean bed time stories on Halloween?"
Violet delayed the question for the moment as she searched for the next book on the list. "Mythical Theories... Mythical Theories...Mythical Theo--ah!" Violet thought to herself as her cold green eyes reached an old fashioned brown-book with the cover almost falling off. The books seem to get older and older by the minute!
"Oh, wait, this isn't 'Mythical Theories'... This is Myths and Supersitions...Oh well, Olivia will have to deal with it." Violet shrugged painfully as she set the books on top of another, and sauntered down the aisle, retreating back to the Fantasy section. Violet just assumed Elizabeth would follow.
Violet's mind got distracted when she remembered Elizabeth's question. Half of her mind looking for the next two books she needed to find and the other half trying to answer Elizabeth.
"Olivia...I think she's 17 or something. I don't know for sure..." Violet ran her finger down the stems of the books, trying to find a fiction book called "Ghosts and Ghouls, The Dead and The Living!". Of course, it was a hard search, but Violet managed to ask Elizabeth a question without sounding like an idiot. "Why do you ask?"

Elizabeth heard the name and instantly. It sounds older..not common in modern times, however, I shouldn't get my hopes up and kill this poor girl for a miscommunication. She thought with a slight grin. Her luck seemed to have changed finally.
"Oh, well because these books must have thousands of old words and large ones too, so it might be hard to read for someone of only seventeen." She lied clearly. Elizabeth herself could read most older books. She preferred them, too, but every now and then a nice hard back romance novel would catch her emerald eyes and she would finish it within a week without satisfaction.
She grabbed the next book that was on the list before Violet had found it. "This what you're looking for?" She was boasting now of her knowledge of books and bookstores. She used to work at a book store before she joined the academy, but then she didn't have time for it and her father was paying for everything, so she had no need for the job. No need for one a year ago.

"Oh, well because these books must have thousands of old words and large ones too, so it might be hard to read for someone of only seventeen."
Now, that made Violet roll her eyes in disapproval. She exhaled sharply to that comment, then continued her search for the books. The sooner she could get out of the claustrophobic bookstore the easier it would be for Violet to breathe! That, and Violet just wanted to grab a coffee or something. Anything really, just something away from here!
"Elizabeth," Violet stated calmly, trying to create a welcome, peaceful aura for the time being. "Please, give Olivia some credit. She's a heavy reader and pretty smart for her age, and she actually enjoys these books!" Violet sighed as she shoved away from Elizabeth so she could scan the rest of the aisle for the book she was on a drastic quest for.
"This what you're looking for?"
Violet looked up to see what Elizabeth was holding. Yup, that was the book. Ancient Fairytale in it's classical brown cover with sappy illustrations with skulls. Ew. Nevertheless, Violet nodded thankfully and set the book on the stack she was carrying. Only...what, one more? Good!

Elizabeth had noticed the sudden irritation Violet held with her as she spoke,"I'm sorry. I wasn't trying to down grade your friend, I can tell from how you speak of her that she is highly intelligent." However, the comment Violet had made after accusing her of being rude wasn't so nice either. What did she mean by She actually enjoys these books. Her emerald eyes looked toward the books as she thought I enjoy these books..
She closed her eyes for a moment as she thought about vampires. Her own past flashed in a quick memory.
"Elizabeth, I want to show you something important. Don't Tell." I can still hear her voice within my ears, and see her beautiful smile. She wasn't a vampire, but she loved one, and I was to meet him. I remember following her and that's when they attacked. I watched them kill her and then "he" came. The man with those unforgettable eyes and the voice like an angel, but belonging to a vampire. He yelled at them, but it was too late for me to not hate him and his kind. They killed my best friend, what I called real family.
Her eyes reopened from her flash into the past that she hated with all of her strength, but now she felt sickness creeping upon her as she felt the claustrophobia following it. Elizabeth wanted to run out of the bookstore and into the rain. She wanted to scream and cry, but that was the past so she just stood there as if frozen holding her left side with her right hand. She leaned against a shelf and closed her eyes trying to stop the spinning within her delicate mind.

[/i]...that you've only known through my words..." [/b]she shrugged as she examined Elizabeth again. Sure, she was absolutely pretty and looked awfully frail, but something menacing was dancing like flames in her eyes. And yet, at the moment, Elizabeth looked as white as snow and pink blush spots covered her face were the cold nipped her. "Ooh! Elizabeth, are you alright?" Violet asked in complete consideration. Violet stepped forward to Elizabeth and set her warm hand on Elizabeth's forehead. "You look sick... But you're not overly warm or anything...in fact, you seemed chilled!"Violet took her hand off of Elizabeth's forehead, and held her book against her chest as she took a step back. "How about we grab a coffee or something after I find this last book? I saw a Starbucks just about a block away from here..." She smiled smugly. " 'Sound good to you? Because my mouth is already watering."[/size][/ul]

Elizabeth was surprised, very surprised. It was rare to see someone show kindness to her, when she took in one of her moments. All of Violet's words had to be taken in slowly so she could answer them.
"It's alright, you're allowed to defend her. I have horrible judgment," She pretended to joke slightly with the last sentence, because it was true in some ways. She often was gullible too.
Then when Violet put her hand out, she felt the sudden warmth as she glanced toward Violet in surprise once more. At the academy, everyone knew not to mess with "the disaster" for they feared she would rub off on them. "I'm alright. I'm not ill."
And once the books were hitting her she just nodded to whatever Violet said. She didn't really even hear it, but she might regret it later. Elizabeth was never going to know what coffee to buy, because she didn't drink coffee or even know what it tasted like.
