"We didn't beat the climax of the rainfall, Elizabeth."It was only about four minutes ago when Violet and Elizabeth exited the Dazzling Books bookstore. And as they were making their way to Starbucks, they were only talking slightly, but it turned to silence as the misty drizzling got heavier and began to pour down rashly. The chilling October air also made the rainy weather unbearable, like the rain and wind were working together to annoy Violet to no end. It worked, and so Violet and Elizabeth were running down the wet sidewalks to the nearest shelter and their destination--Starbucks! "Do you still like the rain?" Violet teased as they rushed into the cafe`. A blast of warm air and a cozy atmosphere blasted onto Violet as she stood still near the coat rack where dripping wet coats hung and closed umbrellas rested. Violet took a minute to inhale the welcoming scent of cinnamon and spices, her lips curling up into a smile. "Ah..." she exhaled loudly and musically, like the people of the commercials after taking a refreshing swig of Fresh Spring Water or something. "...I might as well live here, I love this place so much..."[/ul]

Elizabeth was soaked to the bone as she looked at her cotton red jacket giggling slightly. "Still love it." She spoke in a musical tone.
She slipped of her red jacket revealing a black long sleeved shirt with many French words covering it and then in pink rhinestones it said 'Carnival' in French and the year read '1894'. It had a low cut neck and was trimmed by twin lines of pink thread. Her jeans were clinging a bit to her, but still fell at her hips with the black and pink sash falling down the right leg.
Her hands came to her hair as she tried to get some of the water out. A chill fell as she realized that her hair was beginning to let its natural curl to come back. She grimaced at that thought. She hated the spirals within her deep copper hair. Elizabeth then let her hands fall back down. Her bag was now attached to her wrist by the handles as she glanced toward Violet.
"It smells like vanilla." She said hopefully. Elizabeth loved anything with vanilla in it or almost anything.

Violet exhaled again, before unzipping her jacket and hanging it next to Elizabeth's so Violet could find it later. There were a million soft black jackets and dark colors on the hooks, but Elizabeth's jacket added a striking impression with a cheerful and vivid red color. Another reason why Elizabeth didn't seem to be from around here. Violet only glanced back at Elizabeth who seemed to be absorbing the warm and soft aura, for half a second and Violet felt jealous of her, but she managed to shake the feeling off. "If you like the smell this much, Elizabeth," Violet started, swinging her bag in her fingers, her arms dancing freely beside her as she walked toward the small line consisting of four people, one being a mother with her child holding her hand. "You'll like the taste of their food and coffee, even more!"[/ul]

Elizabeth shook herself from the slight feeling of comfort in this amazing surrounding as she nodded following Violet. She smiled sweetly then it faded as she spoke,"My mother used to make things with vanilla all the time when I was going up."
She shook the depression that began creeping up slowly as she realized something. A strange feeling swept over her. Why am I remembering so many things now that I'm talking with Violet? Does she have some kind of influence over my memories? She shook that thought away as well. She's a normal human. She doesn't have powers like that.
Elizabeth then realized that she had been asked a question. She answered finally,"Great, I'm kind of hungry now. What's the best thing here? I'll pay for both of us."

Violet almost let her jaw drop, but she kept it up high and made sure her teeth didn't part. "Would you really, Elizabeth? Oh, wow..." Violet wasn't sure if she should be more thankful than shocked, or even bashful! It was a mix of the three: Violet was grateful for meeting a kind friend to pay for anything of Violet's; Violet was shocked for the sudden sincerity; and Violet didn't feel right for letting Elizabeth pay. "Uh, no... I'm the one who pulled you in here, Elizabeth! I'll pay... And as for the best thing around here--one word. Frappichino!" Violet chuckled at the word. "It's like a frozen hot chocolate with whipped cream--and if you want, coffee can be added."The sudden joy faded away as Violet glanced around the room awkwardly for bit. It quickly was silent after Elizabeth mentioned her mother. Violet tried ignoring the voice in her head telling her to turn around and feel sorry for the poor child, and even though that's what Violet would want if she left a blank for Elizabeth to feel sorry for her, but right now, Violet wasn't in the mood for opening any old wounds. The only sorrows Violet ever shared with anyone besides herself was when a relative or someone close passed away. "How may I help you?" a teenager with dyed black hair pinned in an overflowing ponytail, bright blue eyes and a grin so wide it made Violet's own face ache from the thought. "Uh..." Violet flinched for a second, then straightened up and rolled her shoulders backward. "I'll take a Double Chocolate Frappichino, with coffee and whipped cream, please."The girl nodded happily as she pressed the buttons on the cash-register. The price rang up to $3.99, surprisingly down by a dollar from the usual Starbucks around the world. "And you, miss?" the Starbucks girl asked, bouncing on her heels as she looked over to Elizabeth.[/ul]

Elizabeth realized that suddenly she was being asked yet another question. "Umm..." She uttered the common teenager reply as she glanced around for what other things besides the common drink she was going to buy. "I'll have what she's having, and what else do you want, Violet?" She wasn't taking the no paying deal.
Her emerald eyes showed a caring look as if saying 'get whatever you want, I don't care', and that's just what she was thinking, but there was a catch within her mind. She wanted to sit down before she passed out from her head spinning. She hadn't eaten anything, nor had she thought to drink anything earlier so her throat was dry.
However, through all of her stupidity from before, part of her was glad that she had skipped it all to be there to meet Violet on today of all days. This was the month she dreaded. The month when vampire activity had to be lower than ever seeing as people were pretending. That way they could act normal and look at the humans laughing as if they find it stupid to dress like a vampire, like other humans would do.
Elizabeth knew all about it. She loved to hate Halloween, and in her old home, she always seemed to hear the screams that night. The dead spoke to her the most on that day, and all the days before. October made spirits, vampires, and werewolves calm. Some came out more. Others blended much easier, but no matter what, it gave poor Elizabeth more work.

The peppy cashier girl nodded and started to press and push on the buttons with such overflowing enthusiasm and joy, that it sent chills down Violet's spine. The cashier looked up at Violet's pale face with a honey-coated smile, making Violet's stomach do back-flips at the thought of smiling like that to a complete stranger. Violet mentally shook the feeling off, though, and looked at the price that rang up. Quickly, Violet slid the crisp ten dollar bill out of her pocket and onto the counter, taking the change and shoving it back in her pocket before Elizabeth could even protest. Without looking back to see her reaction, Violet scribbled down their names on the paper and handed it back to the cashier, who would call it when their drinks were ready. Still avoiding Elizabeth's eyes, Violet sauntered to a table near the fireplace they just got into the shop. Some teenagers and college students were sitting on pulled up chairs around the fire and laughing and sipping coffee and...making out. Ewh, better move away. Violet turned away from the table and chose the table with two chairs, near the window and as far away from the fireplace. Violet sat down and sighed, waiting for Elizabeth to sit down across from her.[/ul]

Elizabeth followed Violet against her own will as she set at the table across from her new friend. Her emerald eyes stared out the window toward the depths of darkness covering the sky and the raindrops beating across the pavement. She saw them as if they were dancing to a fast paced song trying to call others to join within their dance. That what raindrops were to her. They were elegant dancers calling for others with their swift steps.
"Why are you avoiding my eyes, Violet?" She asked in a much different tone now. It wasn't much deeper, just more sorrowful as she watched the rain. Her eyes then glanced toward Violet, and if you wouldn't have known Elizabeth, you could have sworn she was crying, however, everyone knew that she hadn't cried for six years. Ever since, her only friend was killed by..vampires.
She closed her eyes and lowered her head. "Forgive my out burst earlier. Sometimes they appear within my mind..and I talk to myself." Elizabeth said with the same distance in her eyes as she watched the rain. She could see her best friend dancing within the drops giggling about her false love with a vampire. I vowed that day..even against her will to kill every vampire I met..

Her lips pressed together in a thin line, her pale lips getting paler by the pressure. Violet's cool jade eyes flickered up to Elizabeth's eyes, and blinked twice in curiosity before Violet took her palm and rubbed her right one. "Ah, no reason... I'm just sort of..." she paused for the moment, her brain shocked at the voice inside her head interrupting her. Consideration... Vanilla... Elizabeth's mother..! At first, Violet was baffled at this. What about Vanilla and Consideration, nevertheless Elizabeth's mum? Oh yeah...that thing Elizabeth mentioned earlier than left a gap of silence! Something about vanilla and... Violet stopped her thoughts and remembered she hadn't finished her sentence earlier. In a rush, she ended it with, "...thirsty!" then Violet involuntarily resumed her thoughts. The voice inside Violet's head wouldn't calm down, and it started to flood all of the distractions. It was like a large wave, crashing down angrily on the beach, then rolling back into the ocean to form an even bigger wave each time. It got to the point when Violet had to clamp onto her ears and close her eyes shut in horrible, mental pain. The voice just got louder and louder like someone messing around with their iPod and a stereo on Max. Volume... And as soon as Violet opened her mouth, she surrendered to the voice, and all things slowed in her mind. "I don't mean to bug you, or even be the little bit nosy! But, and I'm sorry I'm asking you, what did you mean about your mother making you things with vanilla when you were young?" Violet asked in a retarded fashion, as if trying to get all her questions out at once so the voice would quiet down. Little by little, more questions spilled out. "And what do you mean by they appear within your mind? Who's they?"[/ul]

Elizabeth bit her bottom lip for a moment then shrugged slightly. She still gazed at the beautiful rain drops as her voice arose softly,"You know, what mother's normally made, like cookies and cakes. She made me this large birthday cake when I turned nine..." Her voice trailed, and her eyes closed at the next question.
Her breathing seemed to be held in for a moment as she leaked it out slowly in a short whistling sound. She then stopped and closed her eyes. This was a very private question for her. Why did I even bring my family up. I have to lie or else people will realize that I live alone. No, I have someone paying for my things. It was the money my parents had left me when they both were killed.
Her eyes glanced back toward the rain as she spoke, this time the softness was missing. Emotion was missing. "My mother and father are who I see," She spoke the words slowly as if thinking carefully on what to say. "Neither of them are alive, and our drinks are ready. Would you like me to get them?"

[/ul] Violet rapidly shook her head, shaking away the meaningless discussion with her father she had many years ago. Her father knew everything there was to know about the mythical, but he never mentioned anything about people contacting the dead. So...was Elizabeth just fooling around? Trying to play Violet for laughs? What was she planning...or what was Violet falling into?! "I'm sorry to hear that your parents passed away," Violet stated, her voice a little to hard and forward than it needed to be. But Violet was very unsure about Elizabeth now, what she meant or whatever the girl in front of her may be. "But I don't understand the joke. What do you mean by 'would you like me to get them'?"[/ul]

Elizabeth thought a moment. She listened to Violet and stared in awe. "I mean, I can get up and walk over to the counter before they call for us and bring our drinks back. What did you think I meant?" She asked with a slight sarcastic town at the last sentence.
I can't get my parents, if that's what she meant. I can see spirits, but I can't call them. Only the restless ones that come to me, or call me from my slumber. She thought standing up.
"I'll be back within a moment's notice." She spoke the words as if the emotion was slowly creeping back to her, but her face had no color at the moment. She walked to the counter as the woman walked forward about to call their names. "I'll take those. They're for Elizabeth and Violet, correct?" She asked as the woman just nodded in a slight awe to see someone walking up for an order that had no indications of it's completion. "Thank you."
Elizabeth then turned and walked back to Violet sitting the Frappichino in front of her and then talking her seat once more. "Do you think I'm something other than a human, Violet?" Her eyes were challenging as she glanced toward the blond female.

Violet's blood-drained, pale face transformed into a hardcore blush, a pinkish shade covering her soft cheeks. Her eyes glared down at the wooden table in front of her until Elizabeth got up and left to get their drinks, then Violet loudly slammed her head on the table, startling a few customers around her. Violet felt the eyes on her dramatic sulking, but she didn't dare to glare at them. They had every right to look at Violet as if she were some crazy nut-job. Because right now, Violet's godly self esteem was chopped up in tiny pieces by Violet's own mishearing! When Violet's ears picked up Elizabeth sitting back down, she sat up, and rubbed the fresh bruise on her forehead. Idiot... Violet hissed at herself. That's what you deserve for trying to be a few paces ahead!! Angry at herself, she tended not to show it, but the way she snatched her drink and sipped it furiously kind of made it hard to miss. "Do you think I'm something other than a human, Violet?""No." Violet answered bitterly, not really trying to hurt Elizabeth's feelings or get anyone in a mad mood. "You might as well be an angel who fell to earth, for all I care, Elizabeth! It's your interest in fairy tales that worries me."[/ul]

Elizabeth's eyes looked at the red mark on Violet's forehead. "An angel? Guess again." She giggled then picked up her drink looking at it strange cream on the top of her Frappichino then glanced toward Violet. "Maybe we shouldn't dwell on that. Anyways, why do you fear my taste in stories?" She asked playfully pulling the book out of its plastic bag and sitting it on the table.
Her eyes glanced at the words on the cover. They read Vampires in large red letters then in small red letters it said They walk among us. The cover was completely black besides the words, but Elizabeth gazed at the cover. "Do you believe in Vampires, Witches, and Werewolves?" She asked looking at the cover and tracing the word "Vampire" with her fingernail. "Or do you think I'm mad?" She meant mad as in crazy, but she preferred using mad instead.
Her emerald eyes seemed a bit darker as she glanced toward Violet still tracing the word in the rhythm from before, but she was waiting. Waiting for a large piece of her puzzle to fall into place.

Violet's lips turned into a hard frown, setting down her drink gracefully on the sticky spot on the table. Calmly, she folded her arms around her chests, then laid them down on the table for support of her arms. She leaned over to examine the book Elizabeth pulled out with more definition than the other times she has seen the book, but really, Violet was trying to avoid answering. "Or do you think I'm mad?""Hmm...they're just myths, Elizabeth. And no, I don't think your mad, but I don't think you're one-hundred percent correct, either."[/ul]
