CHAPTER 00 - SNEAK PEEK
Storm clouds seemed to have painted the sky for a while, though not a single drop of rain fell on the scene. The world was darkened and yet, remained calm with no wind blowing, and no other people or animals nearby. A small mountain, recently named Mt. White Fang for its shape of an upside-down tooth, had a gifted role that one day. Being such a small and unimportant mountain, was granted to become a battle ground, the one for the future heroes of Arkeis.
Well, not all the heroes of Arkeis stood on that mountaintop that day.
Only three figures stood.
The question is how many who remain standing..?
“HOW COULD YOU ABANDON US?” Another voice screamed through the air. This voice was different from the previous voice; it was a girl’s voice.
A girl kneeled near the caller of the first voice, a boy with brown hair and blue eyes. The girl herself was probably a few years younger than him, short red hair and big, brown eyes. But what separated the girl from the boy were the sandy brown cat ears poking out from her head and the cat tail. What also separated the girl from the boy was the fact she was on her knees, sobbing in her hands, while the boy stood strong against the next figure.
The next figure a long way from the two, only by about a few yards. The figure wore a heavy silver armored suit; the only visible skin was the chin up to the bottom of the nose. There was a human inside the armor, but it wasn’t just some average being inside the armor suit to the other two. And the other two weren’t just some intrusive kids to the figure, either. They both knew each other, quite well, really.
“How...how...” the cat-girl sobbed, her amber brown eyes staring at the ground before her. She took her hands and tightened her grip on her knees, tears dropping down. “How...could you...abandon us...why...would you abandon us?” The cat-girl raised her head up, her eyes burning holes through the heavy armored being. She gritted her teeth and began to scream through the empty air at the figure. “WHY?! TELL ME!”
The figure shifted a little, startling the brown-haired boy, making him draw his blade and hold it in his attack mode. The cat-girl didn’t flinch, though remained on her knees, the wet eyes looking as mad at they could get. The figure laughed at them for a slight moment, drawing its sword and smiling.
“Why..?” the figure spoke, its voice rich and yet, chilling. “Kina, you were always the most emotional of the group.” The figure raised the sword up a little; the symbol carved in the metal mentally shocked the minds of both the cat-girl addressed as ‘Kina’, and the brown-haired boy whose name wasn’t spoken quite yet.
The figure smirked, stepping forward in a calm manner. “You wouldn’t be such a burden anymore, if you died...or rather, get the honor of having your blood on the Getsuei Hogosha’s katana. My most prized possession, if I do say so myself.”
Kina’s brown eyes grew large as her entire body froze, her hands slowly trembling as she reached for her face. The figure sauntered casually toward the two, but came closer with the blade, and probably the end of Kina. Kina could summon up her magic and run at the speed of lightning if she wasn’t so afraid or really, hurt. The figure was someone she knew very well, someone who saved her life a number of times, and now was ready to take her life out of cold blood.
But as Kina looked at the call of her death and counted down her final breaths, another sword swung itself at the figure, the brown-haired boy the one wielding it. The boy waited for the figure to walk closer to Kina, before taking out his sword and slashing it against the figure’s armor.
The figure jumped back, the armor unharmed and the person inside of it unharmed, too. It was obvious the boy’s sword couldn’t damage the armor or the figure, and would just bounce right off, so why did he attack? It couldn’t be a warning move, because the boy really tried harming the figure’s neck. Usually, warning moves took at the stomach or at arms or legs, sometimes not at the other person’s body at all.
Startled at the sudden movement, the figure stepped back from Kina, and whipped its head around to the boy.
The boy held his blade in both hands, in front of his body so he could easily lash it forward if needed. His face was full of fiery emotions like anger and rage, as he stood in front of Kina, protecting the innocent soul at her weakest stage.
The figure laughed loudly this time, throwing its head back in laughter. The boy did not take the opportunity to attack, for it became clear with the first attack. The armor was strong, and the fact that the boy didn’t want to harm the figure. Even if that depraved witch didn’t cast that spell that doesn’t allow him to use any magic, he wouldn’t be able to. He just couldn’t bring himself to that point.
“Ah, Vadiant...” the figure said, taking its blade and stepping back, already a few yards away again. Its voice was very raw and solemn. “It’s been a while since I’ve seen you in person.” The figure waved its hand to the clouded sky. “Selene says you haven’t changed at all, but that’s not true. You’ve grown...on the outside that is.”
The boy began to shout, enraged by the little games. “Why did you turn to Aerina?! What possibly lead you to their side?!”
The figure smiled at the boy. “I was getting bored of the hero game. Besides, Madame Aerina has provided me everything I ever needed and wanted. I now know who I am—what I am.”
Vadiant, the name of the boy wasn’t convinced. “What? What are you? A traitor? A monster?”
The figure’s smile turned to a grimace. It raised its sword and yelled at the boy, its voice forceful and loud. “For one, I’ll be your murderer.” The figure raced to the boy, the blade in its hands. The sword swung into the target’s body, Kina’s scream and the heavy scent of blood filled the air.[/size][/ul]
